If I had a dollar every time I found a post about Google’s duplicate content penalty I could give up affiliate marketing and play golf all day instead! So what is duplicate content penalty, or what isn’t duplicate content penalty?

A lot of people somehow think that Google will penalise you for adding the same content to different websites. For example if you write an article and have it distributed to 100 different article directories. You will have hundreds of copies of the same article all linking back to your site.

Some people just seem to think that Google will punish you if you do this. If that was true then I could find one of my competitors in whatever niche I was promoting and then write some spammy articles and have them submitted to thousands of directories so that they would incur the Google duplicate content penalty!

The people at Google aren’t stupid. In fact they have some of the most intelligent people on the planet working there. For that reason it doesn’t take a genius to work out that whatever you can do on the Internet to a competitor will not result in a penalty of any kind from Google.

If you do distribute the same content to hundreds or even thousands of websites the only thing that might happen is that Google will not count all of those is back links, so you wouldn’t be getting the full link juice that you would get from unique articles. Apart from that there is no downside to it.

Another thing I hear is that if you have too many links pointing back to your site from the same place for example EzineArticles.com, Google will penalise you. Again if this was true then I could just have hundreds of articles written with links all pointing to my competitor so that he would get penalised!

I hope you are beginning to see that the Google duplicate content penalty just doesn’t exist! After all what the heck is RSS? it’s all duplicate content.
